In celebration of International Women’s Day on Monday, the 10th of March, the sixth-year students in Scoil Mhuire had the pleasure of being addressed by past pupil and recently elected TD for Meath West , Aisling Dempsey.

Aisling was introduced by our Head Girl, S Hayden. The TD gave a wonderful insight into life after school, and how it is okay to not know exactly what you want to do straight away. The students received an encouraging talk on women and their importance in politics. Girls had the opportunity at the end to ask Aisling various questions, ranging from her life in politics to being a mother.

This event was being held as part of Wellbeing Week 2025. Afterwards, the students had an opportunity to relax and catch up with their classmates over a cuppa. Refreshments – including fair trade tea and coffee were provided by the 5th year Wellbeing team, ably led by Ms Geraldine Morris and Inion Ni Anluain.  Funding for the refreshments was provided by Worldwise Global Schools, who support our efforts to embed a global justice perspective on this annual event in the school’s calendar.

Funding for the event was also provided through Drogheda Credit Union, with Ms Suzanne Gilleece, Branch Manager and herself a past pupil providing support. We are very grateful for Drogheda Credit Union’s assistance in running this year’s event, which proved to be hugely enjoyable for students and staff in attendance.
